§ 36-2. Adoption and enforcement—State vehicle code.

(a)

The Michigan Vehicle Code (MCL 257.1 et seq.), and all future amendments and revisions to the state vehicle code when they are effective in this state are incorporated and adopted by reference. References in the Michigan Vehicle Code to local authorities, shall mean the city.

(b)

The penalties provided by the Michigan Vehicle Code (MCL 257.1 et seq.) are adopted by reference provided, however, that the city may not enforce any provision of the state vehicle code for which the maximum period of imprisonment is greater than 93 days.

(c)

Printed copies of the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code (MCL 257.1 et seq.) shall be kept at the office of the city clerk, located in City Hall, 29450 Munro, Gibraltar, Michigan 48173, in compliance with state law. Any person may inspect or obtain a copy of the state vehicle code at that location during regular business hours.

(d)

The officer who issues a citation under this chapter shall mark the local ordinance box on the citation and may make reference to the offense being charged by writing the description of the offense and/or by citing the last three numbers from the state vehicle code or by any other manner which would reasonably inform the defendant of the charge.
