§ 2-19. Definitions; compensation.

  • (a)

    Definitions. The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this subsection, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Year , as used in this article, is defined as the time that the elected officer assumes office; November 7 of the election year.

    (b)

    Compensation for mayor, councilpersons and treasurer . The mayor, councilpersons and treasurer shall receive compensation as recommended by the elected officers' compensation commission in accordance with ordinance and state law.

    (c)

    Deferred compensation for mayor, council and treasurer . In lieu of the city paying the required FICA for the mayor, council persons and treasurer, the city shall pay into the city's deferred compensation plan an equivalent sum, being 3.75 percent of the officer's compensation. The officer may, at his option, contribute a sum equal to 25 percent of his compensation.

    (d)

    Compensation for the city clerk . The compensation and benefits of the city clerk shall be as established by the city.

    (e)

    Alteration of compensation . Compensation for elected officers shall not be altered unless done so in compliance with section 2-393.
