§ 42-55. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Anchored rafts means all types of nonpowered rafts used for recreational purposes which are anchored seasonally on waters of this state.

    High speed boating means a speed at or above which a motorboat reaches a planing condition.

    Operate means to navigate or otherwise use a vessel.

    Personal watercraft means a vessel that meets all of the following requirements:

    (1)

    Uses a motor-driven propeller or an internal combustion engine powering a water jet pump as its primary source of propulsion.

    (2)

    Is designed without an open load-carrying area that would retain water.

    (3)

    Is designed to be operated by one or more persons positioned on, rather than within, the confines of the hull.

    Port means the left and reference is to the port side of a vessel or to the left side of the vessel.

    Regatta, boat race, marine parade, tournament, or exhibition means an organized water event of limited duration which is conducted according to a prearranged schedule.

    Slow—no wake speed means a very slow speed whereby the wake or wash created by the vessel would be minimal.

    Starboard means the right and reference is to the starboard side of a vessel or to the right side of the vessel.

    Watercraft includes all watercraft which are motor propelled, jet pump system or other mechanical device.
