§ 42-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Boat well means a designated space over water used for the tying or mooring of watercraft. A boat well may be designated space between land and a dock, between a dock and a second dock or between a dock and a pier.

    Canal means a connecting body of water not less than four feet deep at low water stage and not less than 60 feet wide at water level at the four-foot depth.

    Dock means a pier or structure, either built over or adjacent to a body of water and usually supported by piles, such structure being used as a means of entrance or exit from watercraft and for the tying, securing or anchoring of watercraft thereto.

    Natural outlet means any outlet into a watercourse, canal, waterway, pond, ditch, lake or other body of water, either surface water or groundwater.

    Seawall means a retaining wall at the water's edge, excluding dikes.

    Watercourse means a channel, canal or waterway in which a flow of water occurs, either continuously or intermittently.

    Waterway means any waters, drain, stream, body of water, lake, river, canal or connecting waters within the boundaries of the city, and under its jurisdiction.
