§ 2-221. Functions.

  • The department of public works shall have the following specific functions:

    (1)

    It shall have charge of the construction, operation and maintenance of the city sewage system and water lines. It shall have charge of the construction and maintenance of all improved and unimproved street surfaces, the cleaning of improved streets, the removal of snow, the construction and maintenance of sidewalks and bridges, the operation of city dumps, and the operation of the garbage and rubbish collection and disposal service of the city.

    (2)

    It shall have charge of the control and regulation of the planting of trees, and the planning, development, maintenance, management and operation of all boulevards. The department shall care for all shade trees located on lands devoted to public purposes and shall control all lawn extensions between sidewalks and street curbs.

    (3)

    It shall maintain all city controlled lands or buildings, including, but not limited to, the city cemetery.
