§ 2-159. Return to owner.

  • The public safety department shall be charged with the custody of such unclaimed personal property as may come into its possession, which shall be kept a period of two months, unless the identity of the owner shall sooner be discovered. If the identity of the owner shall be learned while such property is in the custody of the department, the department shall notify the owner in writing that unless he shall reclaim the same within 30 days from the date said notice is given he shall have forfeited any claim to the return of such money or personal property. Any person making a claim for the return of lost money or personal property shall establish his ownership to the satisfaction of the department and such money or personal property shall be returned to him upon payment of the cost of any advertising by the finder or expenses of storage incurred by the department.
